Maine Public Radio discusses Bates economist Nate Tefft's soda-tax research

Maine Public Radio interviews Bates economist Nate Tefft, whose research finds that while soda taxes raise revenue, their impact on obesity, says reporter Josie Huang, is "less sizeable than health advocates would hope. For every 1 percent tax increase, body mass index drops by just three-thousandths of a point." The interview reflects interest in Tefft's co-authored article "Can Soft Drink Taxes reduce Population Weight?" — read the working paper — published in the journal Contemporary Economic Policy. Hear story from Maine Public Radio, Oct. 20, 2009.
