Sponsored by the Office of the Chaplain, this annual service of worship opens the college’s observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. The Rev. Joan Martin is renowned for her scholarly work on the African American Christian tradition, including womanist social ethics, her research on the ethics of work and human labor, and her interpretations of the history of Christian social ethics. Her latest book is “More Than Chains: The Work Ethic of Enslaved Christian Women” (Westminster/John Knox Press, 2000).
