Residential life

Bringing together academic and social interests

Residential houses and halls are vibrant communities that provide social and intellectual life beyond the classroom. Housing options at Bates range from small and cozy to big and gregarious. Residences all have their own personalities and flavors. On-campus housing is guaranteed for four years.

benedict-room2225C The innovative 280 College Street clusters groups of single and double bedrooms around a common room. Seven other traditional residence halls house between 40 to 150 students each, and 25 Victorian houses offer a more homelike atmosphere for 10 to 30 students each.

Junior advisors (JAs) and residence coordinators (RCs) are Bates students trained to help with all kinds of campus-life questions. JAs serve as guides, resources and role models for first-year students. RCs serve as coordinators and organizers in residences that house mostly upperclass students

The residence life program at Bates strives to extend the education of the whole student beyond the classroom, by helping students learn how to live together and resolve conflict.
