Achieving excellence through all phases of professional, personal life
The challenges students encounter and the discoveries they make at Bates set the stage for graduate study and professional advancement.
Professional excellence
The nearly 20,000 alumni of Bates College work in a wide variety of fields. Bates alumni do not cluster around a specific career, nor is Bates a breeding ground for a particular industry or organization.
The Office of Career Services maintains an active network of alumni who have volunteered to share their time and professional expertise with alumni of Bates.
Fellowships and scholarships
Bates students and graduates are well-prepared for the most competitive scholarship and fellowship programs. Rhodes, Fulbright and other renowned scholarships and fellowships can make extraordinary graduate education opportunities available to qualified students after they leave Bates. The Fellowship Committee helps seniors and young alumni discover and apply for prestigious fellowships.
Graduate degrees
In recent years, more than 70 percent of Bates alumni have earned degrees beyond the bachelor's. The Wall Street Journal named Bates as one of the top 50 colleges and universities that send the most students to graduate schools.
"Bates seniors care about finding a job that they are passionate about doing, about finding happiness and fulfillment (as well as supporting themselves) in work. They are listening for a 'calling'— doing something that connects beliefs, dreams, and loves to paid labor."
