Keep connected with Bates people, in person and online

Bates supports alumni connections through regional, professional and service-oriented groups and a variety of ever-evolving online services.

Bates Boston Business Network

The Office of Alumni and Parent Programs — working with the Alumni Association and its governing body, the Alumni Council — offers services, programs and events that help foster and strengthen the bonds between alumni, parents, students, and the College.

Programming that meets the interests and needs of alumni where they live include traditional regional Bates Clubs as well as the Bates Networks, which support the specific interests of Bates professionals in business and other fields.

Other programming, like the BOLD program for Bobcats of the Last Decade, supports another demographic: young alumni within 10 years of graduation. Meanwhile, the Bates Online Community features social networking, directory and e-mail forwarding. Increasingly, alums are using Facebook to make connections.

"At Bates, athletics are a big part of how friendships are formed and lifelong associations are created. We found a pent-up demand among alums asking, 'How can I connect to an important part of my Bates experience?'"

Trustee Bruce Stangle '70

In developing this programming, Bates creates spirited partnerships with legions of volunteers. Alums can help brainstorm programming, help their class raise funds or plan Reunion activities. They can help Admissions seek the best new students (and future alums) and support Career Services by helping students develop techniques and strategies for seeking employment.

In focus

  • Alumni Council
    • The Alumni Council serves as the primary liaison between the Alumni Association and the Bates administration, faculty, and student body. As the governing body of the Association, the Council encourages admissions, career services, development, and on- and off-campus alumni programming. More
  • The Bates Networks
    • Formed in recent years, the various Bates Networks around the country reflect strong alumni interest in being able to connect professionally where they work. "It's important in any field," says longtime Bates Trustee Jennifer Guckel Porter '88. "But people jump around a lot in the business world, and the ability to move is fueled by having relationships."
